“I've quarreled with my wife. ”“I thought ［guessed］ as much. ” 「女房とけんかしましてね」「そんなことだろうと思ったよ」

He vented his anger on his wife by shouting at her. 彼はどなりつけて女房に怒りをぶつけた.

にょうぼう【女房】

1 〔妻〕 a wife 《pl. wives》; 《口》 one's better half; one's old woman. [⇒つま²]

●女房面(_づら)をする act like sb's wife; behave as if she were sb's wife.

●女房の尻に敷かれる be hen-pecked; be tied to one's wife's apron strings

・女房の悪いのは六十年の不作. A bad wife is the shipwreck of her husband. [⇒あくさい²]

●女房を持つ[もらう] get married; take a wife; marry a woman

・(人に)女房を持たせる get sb a wife; get sb married

・女房を寝取られる become a cuckold; wear the horns

●女房運が悪い 〔悪妻に苦しめられる〕 be cursed with a bad wife; have no luck [be unlucky] with wives; 〔何度も妻に先立たれる〕 outlive one's wives.
